Why does asbestos need to be removed?
Exposure to asbestos has been linked to lung scaring, cancer, mesothelioma and asbestosis. Commonly used for insulation and in attics, around pipes, heating and ventilation systems and in tiling. Asbestos was used in buildings until about 1987. Properties built before this time which are suspected to contain asbestos should be inspected and an asbestos removal/abatement program followed.
Asbestos removal must be conducted by qualified experts as the removal process can expose harmful asbestos fibres. Both workers and property residents or visiting members of the public to a premises must be protected from exposure.
